FACTS
Pickering was officially incorporated as an official village in 1953. In 1974, the Regional Municipality of Durham was formed and Pickering Village formerly part of Pickering Township was included in the Town of Ajax.
An Irishman, named Mike Duffin was the first known Europenan settler in the area. It is believed that one day a Methodist Minister was traveling through the area and stopped to visit Mike. He found Mr. Duffins cabin abandoned and blood stains were found on the floor. Unfortunately, Mr. Duffin was never to be seen again. "Duffins Creek" running along the western boundary of Pickering Village is named in honour of this legend.
Pickering Village with a variety of independent specialty shops, gift and fashion boutiques, art galleries and restaurants has something to offer everyone that visits.
